Rethinking treasury and trade in commercial banking with Koenigsberg Insights’ Alan Koenigsberg
October 16, 2025
Summary: Alan Koenigsberg Recognized as a Global Influential Leader

As global leadership shifts to younger generations, he emphasizes the importance of building on a strong foundation enabling future financial leaders to lead with clarity, responsibility, and resilience.
From BNPL to Quantum: What’s Really Driving Change in Payments?

As Money20/20 Wraps up in Las Vegas, As a Editorial Board Member for Trade Treasury Payments (TTP) I thought to share some of the key themes from the event.
The overarching theme was “Create the Future”. Whether that’s in the form of digital assets, AI, or IPOs that redefine the industry’s identity as the lines between traditional finance, fintech, and digital banking are being increasingly blurred.Behind that overarching theme, there were four core narrative pillars:
- Fintech Spring
Is this finally the moment ‘fintech’ becomes a member of ‘financial services’? Perhaps the integration of fintech into mainstream finance has finally come. - The boring made sexy: The age of Infrastructure.
The industry is moving from flashy innovations to core infrastructure. Legacy payment rails are being challenged by real-time settlement networks, and core banking systems are being rebuilt on cloud-native platforms. The next wave of innovations could be ‘invisible’ and held largely behind the scenes. - The Global Payments Race:
The potential of money movement is limitless and borderless, with a big focus on instant and cross-border payment innovations and the crowded field of contenders. - Securing Trust
The question of how to maintain trust in financial systems and services, including fighting fake hashtag#AI identities, has become more prevalent than ever before. Many experts are beginning to grapple with the challenges presented by post-quantum readiness.
Post script: Money20/20 has moved from Fintech show with hype and futuristic tech to a serious Financial Services conference and platform, demonstrated in the quality of the content, the maturity of the tech and the impressive line up of dispatched executives from FI’s, Infrastructure providers and new technology companies that eclipse the legacy networks and payments processors. The momentum of change is exciting and breathless.

Meet the 2006 Payments Startup
That Took ACH Payments Global
Fireside Chat • May 1, 2024
Summary: Meet the 2006 Payments Startup That Took ACH Payments Global

Koenigsberg emphasizes that IPF’s key innovation was bridging national payment systems using ISO 20022 standards rather than replacing them. “I recall a very extensive live-mapping exercise… literally like physical post-it notes paper all over the walls,” he says, describing the painstaking work behind the IPFA’s enduring infrastructure.
This bridge, which remains in use today, allowed banks of all sizes to manage their clients’ payments directly, rather than outsourcing them. “It democratized the way payments are made,” Koenigsberg notes. IPFA’s work also facilitated real-time cross-border payments in the Southern African Development Community and improved transactions between the U.S. and Europe.
Visa’s acquisition of Earthport in 2019 was a continuation of this vision, integrating it with Visa’s broader international strategy, alongside later acquisitions of YellowPepper and Currencycloud. The legacy of IPFA, which formally disbanded in 2023 with “mission accomplished,” lives on in today’s global payments ecosystem.
